Will I have to pay later?
No. A Pro licence activated during this launch stays free permanently, including future major versions. Paid checkout is currently unavailable. If paid sales open later, your existing launch licence remains valid and is not converted into a subscription.
Is Meanshot really free?
Yes. During the Free Pro launch, the app can claim the complete Pro edition at no charge. The signed licence is permanent and includes future Meanshot major versions. No account, email, or payment is required.
How does the permanent licence work?
The app claims a permanent licence for one Mac using a hashed hardware identifier. The licence verifies offline on that Mac. Its backup code restores access on the same Mac; contact support for hardware replacement.
Does it work offline?
The initial Pro claim needs one internet connection. After the signed grant is saved, Pro access verifies offline forever, including future major versions. Until activation succeeds, capture and studio features stay locked; reconnect and retry the claim or restore this Mac’s backup code. Capture, OCR and editing stay on-device; updates, uploads and streaming use their disclosed services.
Can I use it on more than one Mac?
New machine-bound grants cover one Mac each. Copying a licence to another Mac does not unlock it. Earlier grants retain their original allowance; contact support for machine-bound replacements.
Why not the Mac App Store?
This release uses signed, notarized direct distribution for its full capture controls and virtual-camera extension. The Mac App Store is not a distribution channel for Meanshot.
What does it run on?
macOS 26 (Tahoe) and newer, on Apple Silicon. Its core media stack uses Apple-native frameworks including ScreenCaptureKit, Metal, and VideoToolbox.
